There are basically two different methods of installing Radiant Barrier: Stapling up using the Open-Ridge Method, or laying out using the Over-Attic Insulation Method. Finally, the Flat-Top method is a modified staple up method for tall attics with hard to reach ridges.
In Hot climates like Dallas, Houston, Austin, Phoenix and Fort Worth all three methods are commonly used with the Open-Ridge or Flat top method being the most popular since your PRIMARY goal is to reduce Summer cooling costs. The Over-Insulation Method works very well in ALL climates and is generally easier to install.
There is a lot of debate on which method is the Best Installation Method in warmer climates. Click HERE for the full analysis.
